Sam Silver has been involved with scleral
contact lenses for over 35 years having been introduced
to them as an undergraduate at UMIST - using them
in a research project for his degree.
His real patient involvement was in Moorfields Eye
Hospital - contact lens and prosthetics department
between 1969 and 1987 under the guidance and tutillage
of Professor Ruben, Woodward and SRN Trodd. The many
various cases seen over this period provided valuable
experience.
This expertise has also been utilised in cosmetic
contact lens work and for films
where scleral contact lenses have been used to provide
the special effects.
